• The TFD is going to hold the Spring Fire Prevention Campaign from March 1 (Thu.) to March 7 (Wed.), 2018.
• The No. 1 cause of the residential fires in the TFD area in 2017 is the “Kitchen Range.” The range fires killed people; a lot of cookers’ clothes (ex., sleeves and others) actually caught fire. Keep the following points in your mind. You can prevent range fires. You can keep yourself safe from the fire on a cooking stove.

～Prevent Range Fires～

• Stay in the kitchen while cooking.
• Don’t leave burnable things around the range.
• Use the ranges with fire safety systems.
• Keep the ventilation fan, the walls around a range, the fish cooker clean and fire-safe.

～Stay Safe―Don’t Catch Fire～

• Turn off the range when you take the items over it.
• Keep the fire touching right on the bottom of a pan. Don’t let it keep growing.
• Wear no stole or muffler while cooking.
• Use a fire-retardant apron or fire-safe arm covers.

The Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 is two years ahead now! The TFD has been working at the leaflets for foreign travelers. They will offer basic life safety tips in several languages: how to make a 1-1-9 emergency call, what to do in an earthquake, etc.

Six kinds of materials will be issued around the end of February: English, original Chinese, simplified Chinese, Korean, Thai and Filipino versions.

The copies of the leaflets are also scheduled to be delivered to railroad stations, hotels and tour information centers for foreign visitors. The contents will be found in the TFD website, too.

Before the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020, Tokyo plays host to three events this year: the Tokyo International Fire and Safety Exhibition 2018, the 30^th General Conference of the International Fire Chiefs’ Association of Asia (IFCAA), and the 47^th Kanto Region Fire-Rescue Meet!

The name for these three events is “FIRE SAFETY TOKYO 2018 (FS ’18: Efu Esu Juhachi).” The TFD is going to have the FS ’18 as the opportunity of giving the latest fire and life safety information.
