Greetings by New Fire Chief
| Yoshio KITAMURA 23rd Fire Chief |
I am pleased to announce my appointment as Fire Chief of the Tokyo Fire Department.
I sincerely appreciate your deep understanding and special cooperation in performing our daily fire administration and safety services.
In addition to the many financial hardships being experienced by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the Tokyo Fire Department has challenges ahead, too. We need to promote overall earthquake safety measures with lessons learned from the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, meet the public demand for advanced emergency medical treatment, strengthen community disaster preparedness, and promote fire prevention with the latest fire protection technology. I am aware of my responsibilities and totally committed to addressing those issues for a better solution.
As a matter of simple fact, we are confronted with "potential problems" which were observed in the March 11 earthquake: long-period earthquake ground motion, the affected commuters unable to get back home, tsunami and ground liquefaction. We have been developing measures to deal with such problems to make Tokyo resilient to major disasters. As an emergency organization working for the safety and security of residents, we are determined to make the best of our integrated power, and promote various safety measures.
I solicit for your continuous support and assistance for our endeavors.
