消防技術安全所では、災害が複雑多様化するなかで、都民の安全を守り、安心を支えるとともに、災害現場における消防隊員の安全確保と効果的な活動を行うための科学的見地に立った検証と技術改良を実施しています。
　また、特異災害が発生した場合には、消防部隊として災害現場へ出場し、採取した試料の分析、現場指揮本部に対する災害活動及び安全管理についての助言等の活動支援を行っています。

  The Fire Technology and Safety Laboratory carries out scientific tests and technological improvements to ensure the safety of residents and on-scene firefighters and to improve the effectiveness of firefighters' operations.
  When an unusual disaster occurs, the Laboratory sends a team of firefighters to the scene, who analyze collected samples, and give advice to the incident commander on damage mitigation and safety management.

　装備工場では、消防車両をはじめ、各種消防機械器具の性能や機能が十分に発揮できるよう年間16,372件に及ぶ点検整備を行っています。
　また、消防隊員が災害等で用いる空気ボンベ141,869本の空気充てんを実施しています。その他、各種機器の改良、各消防署に対する整備技術指導及び災害現場等における現場整備を実施しています。（数値は平成22年中）

  The Maintenance Shop inspects all TFD ground fire apparatus and equipment so that they function properly on site.
  In 2010, the inspection and maintenance work undertaken by the Shop reached 16,372 in number, with 141,869 air cylinders refilled. The Shop also provides equipment remodeling, technical guidance for fire stations and maintenance assistance at incident sites.
