With a change given to the Fire Prevention Ordinance on October 1, 2004, the installation of home fire alarms in newly-constructed and remodeled houses became mandatory in Tokyo. And the existing houses will be required to have fire alarms as of April 1, 2010. Home fire alarms detect smoke and heat, and help us know emergencies at an earlier stage.
