Message from Your Local Fire Station!

① Spring Fire Prevention Campaign!

The TFD will conduct the Spring Fire Prevention Campaign 2019 from March 1 (Fri.) to 7 Thu.).

This one-week event helps you raise your life safety awareness and skills to prevent fires or minimize fire damage for lives and property. Your local fire station will welcome you into its fire and life safety event which will be a lot of fun educational!

② Keep Your Home Fire-Safe!

The causes of the home fire deaths in 2018 are as follows: Smoking (26 deaths / 38.8%), Heater (9 deaths / 13.4%), Candle (4 deaths / 6.0%), and Portable cooking stove (3 deaths / 4.5%).(※By quick report)

STOP HOME FIRES!!


~SMOKING~

  • Don’t smoke in bed.
  • Don’t drink, smoke, and fall asleep.
  • Put out cigarette butts completely with water.
  • Don’t leave cigarette butts in an ashtray.
  • Use fire-retardant items. (Futon covers, futon sheets and pillow covers.)

~HEATER~

  • Turn off the heater when you go to sleep and go out.
  • Don’t leave burnable items around the heater.
  • Don’t use the heater to dry the washing.
  • Make sure oil stoves are being turned off for refueling.
  • Don’t place the heater near futons or curtains.

~COOKING STOVE (RANGE)~

  • Don’t leave the range unattended while cooking.
  • Don’t leave burnable items around the range.
  • Use fire-safe ranges.
  • Keep the surroundings clean. (Ventilating fans, kitchen walls, fish grills, etc.)

~CLOTHES~

  • Turn off the range when you take seasonings over or behind the range.
  • Keep the flame under the pot.
  • Take off a stole or a muffler when cooking.
  • Use fire-retardant items. (Aprons, arm covers, etc.)

③ Home Fire Alarms Save You!

On October 1, 2004, the TFD made the installation of home fire alarms mandatory for newly-built houses. Likewise, it was made mandatory for existing houses on April 1, 2010.
Home fire alarms are for living rooms, kitchens, and stairways.


【Check Out Alarms!】

・Make sure all living rooms, kitchens and stairways have the alarms.

・Check and clean the alarms regularly.

・Check and change the batteries.

・Check and change the alarms in ten years or so after the start of their use.

 (See the date of installation or the date of manufacture shown on the alarm.)
