Use Caution on snowy and Icy Streets!

From December through March, there is an increase in the number of serious accidents in which people slip and fall or are otherwise injured on snowy and icy streets.

Statistics show that higher levels of snowfall are related to higher numbers of emergency room patients. In addition, approximately 40% of those who end up in the hospital due to slipping and falling are diagnosed with moderate-level or higher medical conditions, so it pays to be careful!

Medical Severity Levels

  • Mild: Light symptoms that do not require hospitalization
  • Moderate: Symptoms that are non-life-threatening but require hospitalization
  • Severe: Symptoms that are significantly life-threatening
  • Critical: Symptoms where the patient is in imminent danger of death

Examples of Past Accidents

◯ Losing balance while taking a walk...

The patient lost their balance while taking a walk on a snowy road, falling backwards and injuring the back of their head.

◯ Slipping on a slope...

Coming out of the supermarket, the patient the patient slipped and fell on a sloped metal plate that was wet with snow, injuring their right hip.

◯ Slipping on a staircase...

While climbing a set of stairs, the patient slipped in the snow and fell down six steps, breaking their left shoulder.

Preventing Accidents on Snowy and Icy
